Valentine’s Day for the Family
Article by: Chris Kullstroem
If you and your family enjoy celebrating the holidays, remember that Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to include your special someone. Moms, grandmothers, aunts and friends who also enjoy the holiday will feel special if you include them in Valentine’s Day by making them sentimental gifts from the heart.
Personalized cards
Remember those little valentines we all exchanged in the classroom as kids? Get a pack with your favorite cartoon characters and turn them into personalized Valentine’s Day cards. Put one of these mini valentines on a blank card you make yourself by simply folding a piece of construction paper in half or in quarters. Personalize and decorate the cards by writing your family member’s name and attaching cut-out hearts from colored construction paper, scrapbooking paper, or even red and white Christmas wrapping. You can also use stickers, ribbons, glitter, or draw your own designs.
If you have kids, have them sign the card or draw a picture on the inside. They can also draw a picture on a separate piece of paper to be included with the card.
If you don’t think your family is into the small cartoon valentines, make their cards using a quote or poem that reflects your Valentine’s Day message. Make the cards colorful with red, pink, and purple papers and cut-outs. Don’t forget to decorate the envelopes as well.
Picture perfect
For an extra gift, include a picture in the card of you and your family member, or the whole family on a memorable day. You can also make their valentine card with this picture on the cover, along with a poem or stickers.
Dinner out
Another way to make Valentine’s Day a family affair is to invite everyone in the family out to dinner for the night. Send out your Valentine’s Day cards about a week early and include an invitation to dinner at everyone’s favorite restaurant.
Extending Valentine’s Day to the entire family makes the holiday unique and becomes your own tradition. Use these simple gestures as a way to bring the family together and keep in touch with the ones you love throughout the year.
